Tom is co-founder of Lampl Herbert Consultants, serves as Vice-President for Natural Resource Development. Herbert brings 53 years of experience in geoscience matters and provides consulting services in geology, resource development, and legislative/regulatory topics. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology and a doctorate in resource development from Michigan State University (MSU), emphasizing resource law and economics. He contributes to FSU courses related to geologic hazards and petroleum geology, providing lectures related to contemporary issues. He also serves as a mentor and provided informal professional job placement for undergraduate and graduate students in geology.

Herbert served as past chair of the Florida Professional Geology Board and as a member of numerous environmental policy groups. He is licensed as a professional geologist in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, New York and Alaska. The American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) recognized Herbert’s contributions with the AIPG public service award in 2018.

Herbert’s current interests include the history of life on the planet, human resiliency in changing times; the supply chain of energy, water, food and safe living space for everyday life, reading, and mentoring folks.
