Drones: Aerial Videography and Photography and it’s impact on the Aggregate Industry
Brandon Keenan Michael Leonardi
Description
Drones, like any technology, have risks and benefits. The aggregates industry has gained significant benefits from Drone Videography and Photography in the last twenty years. Before 2006 if you wanted aerial shots of your quarry, plant, or building it would take a licensed pilot, helicopter, camera operator, and a lot of money. Today, anyone over the age of 16 can purchase a drone to obtain aerial videos and photos. Is it that simple? Yes and no. The Federal Aviation Administration has placed some limits on what you can and cannot do. Recently, Congress has started to consider a ban on specific drones and the future of aerial videography and photography is uncertain. Can anyone own a drone? Yes. But can everyone operate one? No. Those are two loaded questions. Recent rules have blurred lines that many don’t know about or understand. At KVT Productions we have worked with and operated various types of drones for 9 years, produced videos for NSSGA and its members, and operated drones in numerous quarries. Drone footage can be used for site specific training, aerial inspections, surveying, mapping, stockpile management, and more – but operators need to know the ins and outs before diving into the world of drones on their own. This session will educate attendees on the current state of Drones for Aerial Videography and Photography, their impact on the aggregates industry, and how operators can use drones to benefit their line of work.
